Over 300 Houses Affected in Kaduna Earth Tremor

More than 300 houses either collapsed or got cracked following a slight earthquake which hit Jaba district in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Kaduna early this week, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Thursday.

Musa Illalah, a zonal coordinator of NEMA, told reporters that the rescue agency had gone round to see the buildings that were affected by the incident.

No life was lost in the incident, he said.

At least three communities in Jaba were affected by the earth tremor between late Sunday and early Monday.

Illalah said assessment is underway to further determine the effect of the earth tremor.

“We are waiting for the geologists to tell us the root of the problem and what will be the next plan of action for the occupants of these communities,” he said.

He urged residents to keep calm, saying government at all levels will provide succor to those whose houses were affected.
