‘Allow EC to Do Its Job’, President Mahama to Ghanaians #GhanaDecides

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) carry out its constitutional duties in releasing and announcing certified results from the various collation centres.

“Let’s allow EC to carry out its constitutional mandate. We’ll make Ghana proud no matter [the] outcome,” the President tweeted from his personal handle Friday.

It’s been more than 36 hours since polls closed after Wednesday’s voting and Ghanaians have been eagerly awaiting certified results from the EC.

Barely 8 hours after the election on Wednesday, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) rushed to declare victory for its candidate based on a projection widely circulated in the media setting the stage for tension as the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) fired back with counter claims that its candidate John Mahama was in a comfortable lead.

Meanwhile, the EC has debunked as fake, a result allegedly published on its website giving victory to the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo. The EC says its website was hacked.

Several international media platforms have reported NPP opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo as winner of the elections based on radio station reports.
