The All Progressive Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, on Wednesday postponed its governorship primaries, earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.
Though no reason was adduced for the sudden postponement, reports indicate that the development might not be unconnected to the crisis and seeming misgivings generated by the adoption of a direct system for the conduct of the exercise.
Already, no fewer than 17 gubernatorial contenders have been cleared by the national leadership of the party to participate in the postponed governorship primary election.
A statement by the APC spokesman, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) Primaries to elect the Party’s candidate for the forthcoming Osun State Governorship election has been postponed from Thursday 19th July, 2018 to Friday 20th July, 2018.
“However, a meeting between the Primary Election Committee chaired by H.E. Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, Governor of Zamafara State and stakeholders will hold at the Osun State capital, Oshogbo on Thursday.”
