The High Court of Justice, Bauchi Division has granted an order of interim injunction that status quo ante belium be maintained in any matter that concerns the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
Justice Mu’Azu Abubakar gave the order on Monday while ruling on a motion ex-parte filed by 13 members of the Assembly and two others.
Joined as respondents include the National Assembly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the House of Representatives.
Also listed are the Bauchi State Governor, Inspector General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and 15 others.
Justice Abubakar had heard and considered the submissions made through the written addresses by the applicants’ counsel.
He, thereafter, granted an order of interim injunction that the parties in the case maintained status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The judge also fixed October 3, 2019, as the return date for the motion on notice.
Meanwhile, the order of the court takes effect from July 18.
This implies that members of the House of Representatives Committee investigating the crisis in the State Assembly should not proceed with the report of their fact-finding mission, pending the hearing of motion of the substantive suit.
Earlier, the committee told reporters in Bauchi that its report would be ready latest on Tuesday, July 23.
