Boko Haram: FBI Trains Nigerian Security Agencies

A team of bomb experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States of America, has urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to tackle terror attacks in the country, Punch reports.

The team, led by Michael Trubenback and Thomas Conboy, said on Monday at a training on investigating post-blasts scenes that there is work to be done in tackling the menace of terror attacks in Nigeria.

The training, which held at the Police College, Ikeja, had 31 participants drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Trubenback said, “This training is one of the post-blast processes. We are teaching the Nigerian policemen and other security agencies to help them investigate post-blast scenes. They are being trained on how to identify Improvised Explosive Devices, how to collect evidences, among others.

“Nigeria has an ongoing terror attacks in some states. They are terror attacks and they are also crime scenes. So, we can teach operatives to have basic techniques in investigating such scenes and collecting evidences. This helps in getting the perpetrators and putting them in jail. This course covers especially post-blast scenes.”

The Commissioner of Police, Explosives Ordinance Disposal, Haruna Mshelia, said the training comprised classroom interaction and exposure to blasts scenes.

He said, “The training is designed to teach the investigations of post-blast scenes, explosives identification, application, explosives defects, and evidence collection. It comprises classroom interactions and exposure to post-blast scenes.

“The Inspector-General of Police is insistent on fighting anti-terrorism in all the regions of the country. The EOD is doing its best to get on top of the situation. We are trying to match the standards in international best practices. The U.S. has been a major stakeholder, and with the backing of the IG.”
