The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of a National Caretaker Committee with a mandate to steer the party’s activities for a period of ninety (90) days, effectively ending the reign of Ali Modu Sheriff as National Chairman.
The Caretaker Committee will also organize new congresses and a fresh national convention.
The Committee will be headed by former two-time Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi with Senator Ben Obi as Secretary.
The other members of the committee include; Senator Odion Ugbesia, Senator Abdul Ningi, Barr. Kevin Usman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Mrs. Aisha Aliyu.
SIGNAL broke the news on Saturday of the party’s plan to set up a Caretaker Committee.
Earlier on Saturday, the National Chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff announced the postponement of the party’s national convention holding in Port-Harcourt, asking delegates to home. According to Sheriff, the decision was in obedience of a court order restraining the party from proceeding with the convention.
But party leaders, led by PDP governors disagreed with Sheriff, proceeding with the convention which produced the Makarfi led Caretaker Committee.
Sheriff however insists he remains PDP Chairman till 2018.
