President Muhammadu Buhari has given a mandate to the Senate to confirm nominees into the positions of Chairman, Executive Commissioner and Non Executive Commissioners of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), respectively.
Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye (South West) was nominated as Chairman, while Mr. Sunday Dare (South West) is Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders’ Management.
The Non Executive Commissioners are Aliyu Sa’idu Abubakar (North East), Clement Omeiza Baiye (North Central), Chief Okoi Ofem Obono Obla (South South), Pastor Ezekiel Yissa (North Central) and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume (South East).
In a statement yesterday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari, urged the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to ratify these nominations, which are in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003.
The board is expected to run the affairs of the commission. While the Executive Commissioners are empowered with executive prerogatives and are involved in day to day running of activities in the commission, the Non Executive are like every other director who attends board meetings for a better commission.
Sunday Dare was until now, Special Adviser on Media to National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
