Donald Trump Rescued From Stuck Hotel Lift

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has been rescued from a lift that was stuck between the first and second floors of a Colorado Springs resort.

Colorado Springs Fire Department said it was called at 1.30pm local time on Friday to rescue about 10 people, including billionaire property mogul Mr Trump, trapped inside the lift at The Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel & Spa resort.

Firefighters opened the top hatch and lowered a ladder into the lift and Mr Trump and the others used the ladder to climb out of the lift to the second floor. No injuries were reported.

Mr Trump’s security team was given control of the hotel’s lifts at the time, said Perry Sanders, a lawyer who co-owns the hotel.

“The party were model guests but security insisted on having manual control of the elevators,” he said.

After the occupants were rescued, technicians for the company that services the lifts said the machine became stuck because someone turned the manual key while it was in motion, Mr Sanders said.

The problem was fixed and the four-year-old lift was put back in service, he added.

The Trump campaign confirmed that the incident occurred but did not provide details.

During a rally on Friday at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Mr Trump criticised the city’s fire marshal for limiting the number of people allowed to attend his speech at the building where the event was held.

Fire Marshal Brett Lacey told the Colorado Springs Gazette that he had already agreed to allow a 10% increase in seating at the venue.
