Economic Recession Will Be Over Soon – Buhari

As Nigerians continue to groan over the down turn in the nation’s economy, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured that the current economic recession in the country will soon be a thing of the past.

This is as the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, lampooned the opposition PDP for squandering trillions of naira when the party held sway for 10 years in the state and called on Edo people not to make the mistake of voting the PDP in Saturday’s election.

According to Leadership, President Buhari gave the assurances at the All Progressives Congress, governorship grand finale rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces said the federal government will continue to ensure the stability of the country noted that the Edo state has not witnessed the kind of development that it has witnessed since its creation under Oshiomhole.

Buhari who also paid glory tribute to Oba of Benin who transited to join his ancestors described him as a monarch with “great integrity adding that “there is hardly any traditional ruler that famous, forthright and courageous as him.

He said, “We are a nation of great human and material resources especially the youth. Please seat down and reflex and remember what I said 30 years ago. We have no other nation like Nigeria, no matter where you go. We may as well remain and salvage it together , no matter where you go, you may defiled the Sahara desert or Mediterranean and if you lucky and not killed by drought but what you get there the mere color of your skin will be a problem for you.

“I congratulate Mr Obaseki a seasoned person, i assure you and i recommend him to you so that you will continue to grow. You have got an incredible team and better hold tight and make sure they succeeded.I assure you we are going to get out of this our economic doldrums and we are almost out of our insecuirty problems and we are going to make Nigeria great again. We are going to be very proud of our country and our size and our and resources will not be for nothing”.

Present at the grand finale rally included the governors of Sokoto, Kogi, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Ogun, Kano, Kastina states, Ministers of state Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachukwu, Minister of State Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Past and serving Senators, House of Representatives members, Party leaders, members of the National Working Committee, and others.

He said the presence of the president “is a pointer to the level of importance we attached to the political economy of the people of Edo state”.

“Edo state is the heart beat of the South-South Region of Nigeria. Presently Edo state without any controversy has witnessed the best developmental projects in the last seven and half years more than any other period in the last 17 years. It is also true that governor Oshiomhole has laid the right foundation for governance, he has been responsive, progressive and totally committed to the needs of the people. And so through our actions and campaigns we are convinced that the only way forward is to vote for continuity of the successes.

The Host governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who lashed the People’s Democratic Party Candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for talking about projects that were rendered koboless by the government he served as Secretary also lamented that “Between 1999 and 2008 a period of ten years, these people together with their godfathers, cannot point hand at any project they have done for the people.

He said, “Under PDP they introduce discriminative school fees, but we abolish it because our party as a progressive party that believe in one Nigeria. There was never investment in roads, water, and education.

Oshiomhole urged the people to come out en masse on the day of election and vote for the APC as a way of punishing the PDP for their sins against the people and the state.
