El-Rufai Puts Death Toll In Kaduna Killing At Over 100

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says no fewer than 100 people are believed to have been killed recently in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.

He made the disclosure to State House correspondents on Tuesday shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor who attended the meeting with the governors of Borno and Adamawa states, Kashim Shettima and Bindo Jibrilla, also revealed that security operatives have arrested more suspects linked to the attack.

According to him, those who are denying the recent killing of innocent people in the state are “grossly irresponsible”.

Governor El-Rufai met with the President four days after the news broke that at least 66 people were killed by gunmen in Maro Gida and Iri communities in Kajuru LGA.

Among those who lost their lives were 22 children and 12 women, while four wounded persons were rescued by security agencies.

Condemning the attack, Governor El-Rufai had appealed to residents of the affected communities against reprisals.

He said the security agencies had deployed operatives in the areas to bring the situation under control.

Following claims that the killings were propaganda by the state government, the Nigerian Army confirmed the death of 66 people as earlier reported.

The General Officer Commanding One Division of the Army, Major General Faruk Yahaya, explained that 37 out of those killed were buried in a shallow grave near a river bank in Kajuru.
