The Federal Government yesterday sacked no fewer than nine directors at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The sack order, SIGNAL gathered, is not unconnected with the restructuring exercise the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has embarked upon since assumption of office followed closely with Thursday’s unscheduled visit by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos.
Osinbajo was accompanied by Sirika during the visit.
Recall that heads of sister agencies like Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Meteorological Services (NIMET), Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) were recently replaced, even as several general managers were demoted several steps in Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Yesterday’s matching order, however, caught the affected directors unawares. All the directors were political appointees.
It was gathered that the Director General of the NCAA, Muhtar Usman, conveyed the sack message to the affected directors in a meeting at the agency’s headquarters at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
