For the second time in a row, President of the Republic of Ghana and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has floored Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a social media perception poll conducted on Twitter.
The social media poll was conducted by celebrated Ghanaian broadcaster, Kafui Dey via his Twitter account @KafuiDey which boasts over 137,000 Twitter followers.
A total of 1,882 votes were recorded with President Mahama polling 51%, Nana Akufo-Addo trailing behind with 43%, Ivor Greenstreet at 4% and Jacob Osei Yeboah at 2%.
A similar poll had been conducted last week by the broadcaster which saw President Mahama winning by 54%. For undisclosed reasons Kafui decided to conduct the poll again, this time with an extended duration of seven days, ostensibly allowing room for more participants to vote in the Twitter poll.
The move drew concerns from supporters of President Mahama who said there was no point conducting the poll afresh after a clear winner had been established. Nonetheless, Kafui went ahead with the poll.
