Group Lobbies Tinubu to Back Oyo Rep for Speaker

A group, South-West Youth Ambassador, has urged Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to back a member of the House of Representatives from Oyo State, Segun Odebunmi, to emerge the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In a statement jointly signed by its coordinator, Sanjo Saka; secretary, Ezekiel Akinborode; and publicity secretary, Segun Aremu, the group argued that Odebunmi, a third-term lawmaker, had the requisite experience and competence to lead the House.
The group expressed confidence that if chosen as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Odebunmi would complement the President Muhammadu Buhari-led executive to build a prosperous nation.

“Having been a local government chairman, commissioner and now a member of the House of Representatives, Odebunmi is qualified for the position of Speaker.

“We are confident that the federal lawmaker will not disappoint the party and Nigerians in general,” the group said.

Meanwhile, some members of the All Progressives Congress National Executive Committee are said to have backed Oyo State’s agitation to produce the Speaker of the 9th National Assembly.

Following a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, an APC NEC member from the North-East, who pleaded anonymity, said talks were on to zone the Speaker seat to Oyo State.

While confirming the Ibadan stakeholders’ meeting, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the APC, Bolaji Repete, said the South-West was leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Oyo State produced the next Speaker of the House.

Repete said towards this end, a larger meeting of some members of the APC NEC had been fixed for Wednesday.
