Herdsmen Killings Will Soon Be History – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured the Tiv farmers in Nasarawa State and other parts of the country that the incessant killings by herdsmen will soon be a thing of the past.

He said the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, will do everything humanly possible to bring the menace to an end.

He told  the displaced Tiv farmers in the state that government’s preoccupation on their issue is to look at what plan that would enable them go back to their homes.

The vice president said this yesterday, during an on-the-spot assessment visit to Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camps accommodating Tiv farmers, who were displaced due to attacks on their communities, by suspected herdsmen, in the recent times.

“The main issue is to make sure you return to your homes and be safe and secured. I know that being at IDPs camp is not good for anybody. Children have to go to school and adults have to go to the farm or do whatever business they have been doing.

“We, as a government, are to make sure you are safe and able to do your work in peace and in comfort. We have been here since yesterday (Tuesday) to make sure you are safe to return home, settle there and do your work peacefully.”

However, he said, in the meantime, while the displaced farmers are still at the IDPs camps, government would expect that all their comfort needs in the few days, in terms of relief materials, were provided.

“That is why I have with me the director general of National Emmergancy Management Agency (NEMA) and the executive secretary of Relief Commission. The director general of NEMA already informed me that some of the relief materials have arrived Lafia,” Osinbajo said.

He reiterated:“we want to make sure that peace return to Nasarawa, Benue and other states ‘‘, he said.
