How Buhari Has Fought Crime —Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday gave a breakdown of measures taken by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to combat crime since January, particularly banditry and kidnappings in the North-West.

In a release by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, it listed the inauguration of Operation Puff Adder (Police), Operation Harbin Kunama 3 (Army) and Exercise Egwu Eke 3 (Army) among the latest strategies.

It said they were to “complement the existing Operations Sharan Daji (launched in 2016 by the Army) and Diran Mikiya (launched 2018 by the Air Force).”

It claimed that as s result, “Hundreds of kidnappers and bandits have been arrested or killed since January, several camps/hideouts destroyed; and hundreds of hostages rescued.

“In a two-week operation in February (lasting from February 4 to February 14), 80 hostages were freed by the army, with 37 bandits killed.”
