I am Samuel Ogundipe’s Source, Mukhtar Dan’Iyan (@MrAyeDee) Tells Nigerian Police

A security expert and public affairs analyst, Mr. Mukhtar Dan’Iyan, popularly known as Mr Aye Dee, has claimed he is the source of detained Premium Times’ journalist, Samuel Ogundipe.

In a tweet on Tuesday through his verified Twitter handle, Dan’Iyan stated that he supplied Ogundipe with the Inspector General’s letter to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on last week’s DSS National Assembly siege.

Ogundipe was arrested at about 3p.m. Tuesday and driven from the SARS headquarters in Abuja to the IGP Monitoring Unit at Force Headquarters after he refused to disclose his source over the report on the letter purportedly written by the IGP, Ibrahim Idris to Acting President Osinbajo.

In the report published on Premium Times, Idris was quoted as saying that the sacked DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura was working for some politicians for selfish interest, but did not name the accomplices.

Idris allegedly added that Daura did not consult with other security agencies before ordering the siege, and questioned the validity of a security report that allegedly anticipated a violence at the parliament.

After Ogundipe was arrested and his Ecobank account reportedly frozen in an alleged attempt to frustrate him, officials at the police headquarters reportedly said the directive to detain the journalist came directly from the Inspector General of Police.

Ogundipe who is still in detention has declined giving his source as allowed by journalism ethics. Neither has he confirmed Dan’Iyan’s claim that he was his source.

Dan’Iyan has since posted another tweet reiterating he is Ogundipe’s source.
