JUST IN | EFCC Insists Obanikoro Will Spend the Night in Detention for “Overnight Questioning”

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is detaining former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro for “overnight questioning”, a source informed about the development told SIGNAL on Monday.

An informed source who did not want to be named told SIGNAL the EFCC is insisting Obanikoro will spend the night at the Commission for questioning despite voluntarily submitting himself to the EFCC on Monday.

“If after the legal window of 72 hours he is not released, then his lawyers will carry out the necessary legal proceedings”, the source said.

Senator Obanikoro arrived Nigeria in the early hours of Monday, announcing he returned home to clear himself of corruption allegations.

He has been having a running battle with the EFCC for several months on charges bordering on financial crimes which led to operatives of the EFCC storming his Ikoyi, Lagos residence, reportedly harassing his wife and daughter as well as carting away his personal belongings.

More details to come.
