Lalong Defeats PDP’s Useni to Secure Second Term

With a total of 595,582 votes in the Plateau state governorship election, Simon Lalong, incumbent governor, has won his reelection bid.

Lalong, who ran under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated Jeremiah Useni, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, who secured 546,813 votes in the election.

Richard Kirmbi, returning officer for the election, announced the result at the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) head office in Plateau around 4am on Sunday.

INEC had the March 9 election inconclusive based on the number of cancelled votes being higher than the margin between the two leading candidates in the election.

The supplementary election took place across nine local government areas of the state.
