The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has called on the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, to stop interfering in the affairs of the local government councils in the state.
Akeredolu allegedly ordered the freezing of the accounts of the councils and the removal of the names of the political appointees of the councils from the councils’ payrolls.
The PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday by its state Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, asked Akeredolu to settle down to governance and allow the local government councils to perform their constitutional responsibilities.
However, the Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, said the governor had done nothing wrong with the administration of local government.
He said, “The PDP is just sounding a false alarm. Akeredolu is a lawyer and senior advocate, and cannot do anything that is against the rule of law. They think he would dissolve the local government councils but he has not done so.
“He has promised to serve the state better and that is what he is doing currently. So, I think the PDP should allow the governor to work, they should not cause confusion in this state.”
But Fadaka said the recent action of the governor against the councils was a mere act of vendetta, which according to him, should not be expected from a senior advocate like Akeredolu.
“We particularly feel compelled again to tell Governor Akeredolu the need for him to settle down very quickly and leave the local government councils alone to be administered by the chairmen already elected to discharge that responsibility.”
