Lionel Messi’s goodwill gestures have landed him in hot water recently – through no fault of his own.
The Barcelona forward caused an uproar in Egypt this week after he offered a pair of his used football boots as a charitable donation for auction on a television show.
The controversy surrounded the idea of shoes in in Arab culture being considered some of the lowliest items because they literally touch the ground.
But Messi has bounced back following the boot storm and offered another kind gift – this time to the daughters of US President Barack Obama.
Messi sent two signed Argentina shirts to the White House for Obama’s girls Malia and Sasha, both with his iconic number 10 on the back.
Obama recently visited Argentina, saying during the trip that his two girls would love to meet the Barca superstar.
While a meeting wasn’t possible, Messi has clearly heard the call and did his utmost best to not offend anyone in the process.
