There Are Many Boko Haram Members in Ondo, Suspect Reveals

A Boko Haram suspect arrested in Ondo State, Mohammed Bashir, has disclosed that members of the sect are still in the state. Bashir, 40, made the disclosure yesterday at the state Police Command in Akure, when he was paraded alongside 11 other suspects.

He was arrested less than a week after a top Boko Haram commander, Idris Ibrahim Babawo, was also picked in the state. Bashir, also called Nagada or Babawo, was apprehended at Isua-Akoko, in Akoko South East Local Council Area.

According to police report, Bashir was arrested on Sunday while loitering along Isua-Ifira-Akoko road, in the same local council area.

“When the suspect was arrested, he was interrogated and confessed that he was a member of the Boko Haram sect. He said his father is from Niger Republic, while his mother comes from Maiduguri in Borno State.

“He added that when Maiduguri became too hot for him, he ran to Nassarawa last month, but left the place on Saturday for the south-west to hide,” the statement said.

He further disclosed that he was from Nassarawa State, while his parents live in Kano State, where his father works as a herdsman, while his mother lives in a lunatic asylum.

Bashir explained that he operated under a Boko Haram team leader, whom he identified as “Daffo,” adding that Abubakar Shekau was still the overall leader before he came to the south with his younger brother

The suspect disclosed that they were planning a terrorist action in the southwest on that fateful day, before he was arrested while going out to eat.

Bashir, who said his father sent him out of the house because he was too quiet, said he was recruited into the terrorist group randomly when he was grazing his cattle.

He further disclosed that he had only killed two people since he became member of the gang eight months ago. Bashir explained that some powerful people in the society were sponsoring the group, adding that they receive their weapons through a syndicate which delivers weapons to them in the bush before their operations.
