Mimiko Tasks Buhari On Credible Elections

Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on Tuesday tasked the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government on the need to put in place a process for free and transparent election in the country saying “the greatest thing the current administration can give to Nigeria is credible election”.

Mimiko stated this in Akure, Ondo State capital, while speaking at the State Delegate Conference of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, where officers to run the affairs of the party for the next four years were elected.

The governor, who expressed excitement on the way and manner the conference was conducted, said once democracy is entrenched in the country through credible, free and transparent electoral processes, Nigeria would be great

He said one of the greatest legacies bequeathed to Nigeria by the immediate past Federal Government was credible electoral processes and which was appreciated by everybody in the country and outside world.

“Credible election is the key to Nigeria greatness irrespective of the various challenges confronting the country. Once democracy can be entrenched through the principle of one man one vote, all the problems confronting Nigeria shall be a thing of the past”, he said.

He therefore tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to do all within his power to create enabling environment for credible election adding that with the outcome of the conference conducted without any rancour, it showed that members had put all that happened in the past behind them and that PDP in Ondo State is now a united family.

He said with the success of the conference achieved through sacrifices, give and take principles, victory is sure for the party during elections in the state.

“It is only PDP that can defeat PDP in Ondo State. Once the PDP is united and remain one, no party can defeat in in any election.

Mimiko, who highlighted some of the major achievements of his administration and which he said shall be laid on the table when the time comes, said that election shall be violent free and credible in Ondo State.

At the conference supervised by officials selected from the National Secretariat of the party and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Mr Segun Agbaje, Chief Clement Faboyede was returned unopposed as the State Chairman of the party.

Other officers elected by voice votes are the Deputy Chairman, Fatai Adams, State Secretary, Chief Oyedele Ibine and three vice chairmen for each of the senatorial districts.

Also, other officers recommended by the party constitution were elected unopposed through voice votes.

Commenting on the exercise, the Chairman of the Delegate Committee from the National Secretariat of the PDP, Hon Mohammad Imam expressed excitement on the success of the conference.

Imam said the day would remain memorable in the history of his political assignment because he had witnessed many of such in the past.

He commended the organisers and members of the party for the peaceful manner in which the conference took.

Also speaking, the INEC REC for Ondo State, Mr Segun Agbaje described the conference as very successful and well organised.
