A Niger Delta militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on oil and gas installations in Delta and Bayelsa State has claimed responsibility for another attack.
The attack was carried out early this morning and affected an underground Chevron crude oil trunk line located in Delta state.
The trunk line is located along the Seria Creek near Abiteye, a few kilometres away from the company’s multi-billion dollars Tank Farm in Escravos, Warri South West local government area of Delta State.
The group on its tweeter handle posted the following statement this morning, “We Warned #Chevron but they didn’t Listen. @NDAvengers just blow up the Escravos tank farm Main Electricity Feed PipeLine.”
In a statement directed at President Muhammadu Buhari and posted on its website, it claimed that: “No agent or representative of the Avengers has called the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Group Managing Director, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu to threat his life.
“To all International Oil Companies, Indigenous Oil Companies and Contractors if anyone called saying there members of Avengers please not listen or take them serious because our ideology and belief is far from that,” the group said on its website,
Meanwhile, there were reports on Wednesday that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu has reportedly bribed members of the Niger Delta Avengers with a whooping sum of $10 million.
The allegation against the minister was made on Wednesday by Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to the PDP in a statement via its official verified Twitter handle, Kachikwu released the money after a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja.
