OP-UNEDITED | How Muhammadu ‘The Grinch’ Buhari Killed Christmas

By Daniel Wilson

For generations, Nigerian families have come to recognise the Christmas season as the most festive of all seasons where individuals and families had decked out in their most radiant costumes, to swaddle themselves in the glow and spirit of Christmas. They spend money and show gratitude to God for the outgoing year by celebrations.

Hotels, shops, restaurants, and amusement parks, take up a new glow with colourful lights and soft Christmas carols which had come be recognized as the “Spirit of Christmas,’ even the trees along major streets, especially in Abuja the federal capital city, department stores, bar mirrors, residential buildings, major walls and windows had never been left out in the Christmas celebrations until this year, The year in which president Muhammadu Buhari is the president of Nigeria.

There had never been any Christmas since 1960, even during the war in 1967 that had been half as dry as this. Why? Why Buhari? Is Buhari so completely anti-Christmas? The seven months rule of the General had traumatized Nigerians beyond mention, “I no fit shout”.

Am not going to list out all the present horrors that Nigerians face in this season which makes it the worst season we had ever lived through as a nation, owing to Buhari’s complete misunderstanding of what governance in a newer Nigeria while he was lazy growing old really is. So much had already been said about that but I must point out that PMB deliberately refused to decorate our street corners and roundabouts with Christmas decorations this year.

I will also point out that that while he was magnanimous enough to allow some miserly decorations in the streets, roundabouts and parks of Abuja for the last Salah celebrations he simply refused to do any decorative lights, no matter how small for the Christians. Buhari sir, your predecessor President Goodluck Jonathan was FAIR TO ALL; he celebrated Muslims and Christians with equal zest, like a president of a diverse nation like OURS ought to be.

This season, is the season when people everywhere, Christians, Muslims even atheists, all joined to celebrate their lives, rekindling their hope to live and do greater things than they did in the previous year. Taking away this celebration, sir, is taking away hope from Nigerians.

President Buhari, “even if the only God you worship is yourself, remember,” December in Nigeria has always been about the bustling good cheer flowing from this Christian holiday”. Have a merry Christmas, I wish I could truly wish myself that but I can’t, still I wish you and my fellow sufferers, sorry Nigerians, A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS. WE MUST TO STILL GROOVE ANYHOW.

Canda (kpomo) na still meat.
