OP-UNEDITED | The Hypocrisy of the Northern Elites

By Olome Joseph Ochonogor

I remembered in 2013, the Boko Haram sect nominated President Buhari as their Chief Negotiator with the then Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan.

It should be rewarding to note that majority of the Northern elites such as the the Governor of Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako (Baba Mai Angoro) and other hypocritical Northern elites charged the then Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for genocide against the people of the North.

The Northern youths in return whom have been blinded by their religious beliefs that the elites use to brainwash them believe that President Jonathan was Behind Boko Haram to reduce their population just to win the 2015 general elections.

This resulted in a situation where the convoy of the then President, Goodluck Jonathan was been attacked in different parts of the country (Northern Nigeria) and their elites turned blind eyes to all this all in their quest to return power to the North for their selfish reasons.

Just last week, we saw how the convoy of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai was said to have been allegedly attacked by members of the Shi’a muslim sect in Zaria, Kaduna State and soldiers opened fire at defenceless citizens /worshippers killing over a hundred on the orders of the COAS, General Buratai.

After the killings of over 100 defenceless Shi’a muslims by the Nigerian Army, all we hear from majority of the Northern youths on social media is that, the Shi’a sect are known for causing nuisance and blocking major roads, thus making commuters pass through hardship while plying such routes.

Is it that majority of roads in the North are not closed when they conduct their general prayers ? Or why is the Shi’a muslims celebration different from those that block roads to pray or conduct church crusade or jumat services on Fridays?

Why is the president and majority of Northern elites keeping mute to these extra -judicial killings under his administration?

Will General Tukur Buratai be taken to the ICC by the same Northern elites who took Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika to the ICC over claims of genocide against the North?

These and many more are questions begging for answers.
