Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assumed leadership as Acting President following Buhari’s departure to London for medical treatment.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he has formally written to the National Assembly informing them of his 10 days leave.
Buhari made this disclosure while speaking to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly before leaving for London.
SIGNAL recalls that on February 6 this year when President Buhari proceeded on a five day vacation,Vice President Yemi Osinbajo acted as president in Buhari’s absence.
The same scenario is playing out again with Osinbajo taking over as acting President for the duration of President Buhari’s absence.
The following conversation ensued between President Buhari and journalists at the airport.
Question: As you proceed to London what do you have to tell Nigerians
Answer: I have already told Nigerians that I am going for 10 days to get my ear checked.
Question: Have you informed the National Assembly as required by law?
Answer: the National Assembly knows, they have been formally informed.
On how to calm the tension of a President falling sick, the President answered “is there anybody that doesn’t fall sick?”
It will be recalled that the Presidency released a statement on Sunday that President Buhari will take ten days off and travel to London on Monday, June 6, 2016, to rest.
The Presidency had earlier denied that Buhari was ill. “He is fit as a fiddle”, a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina had said.
During the holiday, Buhari will see an E.N.T Specialist for a persistent ear infection. The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja, and was treated.
Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.
