The Umbrella Force, a group of political intellectuals has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial elections, describing the party’s antics as shameless and classless.
Read their statement below:
The Umbrella Force, a group of intellectuals who believe in the founding values of the PDP and in giving a voice to ordinary Nigerians, is calling for a free and fair elections as the people of Osun State head to the poll in the coming days.
This is coming on the backdrop of suspicious antics by elements within the APC to influence the upcoming elections in Osun by weaponising poverty. It is a shame that Nigeria, under the APC, has been ranked as the poverty capital of the world; even more shameful is this attempt by the APC to exploit the poverty they’ve created in order to retain their hold on power.
The ongoing visit by vice President Osinbajo to “loan” N10, 000 to traders under the Trader Moni scheme is a decoy for perpetrating the vote-buying tactics that was infamously used in Ondo and Ekiti state. In an economy mismanaged into recession by the APC, loaning out N10, 000 to traders is both an insult and a mockery of the people of Osun State.
The 8 years of the current incumbent government in Osun State is worth reviewing. The State has been plagued by unpaid salaries, a decaying education system, white elephant projects that has milked the state dry and various acts of impunity that are still fresh to memory. We thereby call on the people of Osun State to make a statement using the power of their votes on September 24, and resist the attempted mockery of the dire conditions they’ve been forced to live in. No paltry sum is worth another 4 years of slavery under the enslaver.
A free and fair electron under this government will be one final redeeming act for a stint at power that has been an utter disappointment to Nigeria and Nigerians.
