Police Arrest 17 Suspects Over Southern Kaduna Violence

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Thursday that the newly formed Joint Tactical Operation Squad tasked with ending sectarian violence in southern Kaduna State has arrested 17 suspects in Kafanchan, who had in their possession firearms and ammunition.

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris established the squad in response to the ongoing violence in southern Kaduna State. The team includes members of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Intelligence Response Team, SIB, EOD, the IGP Monitoring Unit, Police K9, Police Air Wing, and Police Medical Team.

The suspects, arrested in Kafanchan and in surrounding areas, are as follows:

Nelson Paul, male, 36, Kaninkon Jamma’a LGA, Kaduna State

Bulus Jatau, male, 32, Jamma’a LGA, Kaduna State

Magaji Shaibu, male, 30, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Danlami Yakubu, male, 28, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Idris Bello, male, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Danjuma Barde, male, 39, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Goma Adamu, male, 28, Chukwum LGA, Kaduna State

Samuel Joshua, male, 29, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Abudulkareem Abdul, male, 20, Rigasa LGA, Kaduna State

Haruna Iliyasu, male, 20, Kiru LGA, Kaduna State

Hassan Idris, male, 25, Tsafe LGA, Kaduna State

Adamu Haruna, male, 28, Chikun, Kaduna State

Adamu Umar, male, 27, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Sulieman Saleh, male, 30, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Abubakar Mohammadu, male, 20, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State

Muhammadu Jori, male, 33, Igabi LGA, Kaduna State

The suspects will be charged to court for inciting public disturbance, disturbance of public peace, causing mischief by fire, culpable homicide, theft, and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, according to the police’s press release.

Police also recovered 29 firearms and ammunition.
