Senate Adjourns Plenary Over Absence of Lawmakers

The Senate has adjourned Plenary over the absence of some lawmakers at the chambers.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, made the announcement on Tuesday during plenary.

He said that the adjournment was because of the presence of few lawmakers in the Senate Chamber.

According to him, less than 20 out of 109 Senators are participating in the legislative proceedings and the number is not enough to form a quorum.

He also added that some of the lawmakers are on oversight functions.

However, the absence of lawmakers may not be unconnected with preparations for the 2019 general elections as some of the Senators are fighting for re-election into the Senate.

This is the second time in less than one month where the Senate is adjourning Plenary for lawmakers to perform their oversight function on MDA’s.

The Upper Chamber has therefore adjourned plenary till November 20, 2018
