Pastor T.B. Joshua, the presiding pastor and general overseer of the Synagogue Church, members of the church’s board as well as construction engineers engaged to build the multi-level edifice that collapsed at the Ikotun-Lagos headquarters of the church, killing at least 116 persons, will be arraigned (today) Monday at the Ikeja High Court, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice announced at the weekend.
Authorities had earlier found the church and the contractors negligible for the incident, which occurred in September 2014. Many foreigners were killed in the incident.
The coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, who passed the verdict, asked the government to prosecute the church and contractors. The board’s bid to stop their trial failed at the Federal High Court following the dismissal of their application on November 11, 2015 by the court.
