Gauteng Police have arrested two Nigerian men and two South African women for human trafficking in Randburg, north of Johannesburg, the South African Broadcasting Company reports.
The arrests reportedly followed a tip-off that an 18-year-old girl was being held hostage and used as a sex worker.
Police pounced on the suspects at the house where the teenager was kept.
She was rescued and taken to a place of safety.
South African police’s Kay Makhubele says: “A South African female was sent to Durban in December where she recruited an 18-year-old girl to come to Johannesburg for a job. When she arrived, she was placed in a house where she was fed with drugs and used as a prostitute.”
The identities of the two Nigerians remained unknown at the time of this report.
