Alex Badeh was Moved to Lagos for Investigation on NIMASA Scam Link – EFCC

Kingsley Kanayo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC] on Monday told Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that it has moved the former chief of defence staff, air chief marshal Alex Badeh (rtd) to Lagos State for investigation in his connection with fresh allegations linking him with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Management Agency (NIMASA) scam, Leadership reports.

The anti-graft agency was responding to an application filed by lawyer to Badeh, Mr. Samuel Zibiri [SAN], for his release from the detention of the anti-graft agency.

Badeh is currently asking for his release on self-recognizance and on favourable and liberal terms as the court may deem fit.

Earlier, Badeh’s lawyer in moving the application submitted that his client voluntarily went to the EFCC office when invited.

But in opposing the application, lawyer to the EFCC, Cosmos Ugwu said the court sitting in Abuja has no territorial jurisdiction to grant the application since Badeh is in the custody of the commission in Lagos.

He also informed the court that the applicant is being investigated on a fresh allegation linking him to the NIMASA scam and had been moved to Lagos.

He submitted further that Badeh is yet to fulfil the terms of his administrative bail which the commission granted him after his initial detention.

Meanwhile, Justice Tsoho has fixed March 4, 2016 to deliver his ruling on the application.
