Edo State governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), Godwin Obaseki has said he will beat his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu hands down at the forthcoming gubernatorial polls in the state.
In an interview with Leadership newspaper, Obaseki said from all the feelers across the state, the indication is that his party will win the elections by by 75 per cent.
According to Obaseki, “Particularly in Edo south, things have improved quite significantly from the last poll that we received. Edo Central has been very interesting. The amount of defection from the PDP has essentially crumbled the opposition party in the central. And even their stronghold, we are beginning to see them very jittery and in Edo north apart from few units in Akoko-Edo and one unit in Owan East, it is essentially unlocked down for us so from what we can see today, barring any unforeseen circumstances, barring violence that will scare people from the poll and barring any attempt by the opposition party to cause disruptions in some highly populated voting units so that the results from those units will be inconclusive, we believe that we are very comfortable.”
Obaseki went on to express confidence in the level of mobilisation the APC in Edo State had carried out in preparation for the elections.
“The level of mobilisation have been quite high, we have met practically every group; youths, leaders, community leaders, associations, development associations, in-fact, there is no group in any local government area that we have not reached and students have come out in mass even though many of the university students are on holidays, they have rallied with us, they’ve been very supportive. Farmers, they came in their thousands, artisans, tailors, salon operators, they have all endorsed us. The spate of endorsements across the state have been very humbling to say the least”, he said.
