Elon Musk deleted a social media post claiming US President Donald Trump’s name is mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein files, fueling speculation about their escalating feud.
The post, which sparked intense debate, read: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk also urged his followers to “mark this post for the future” as he hinted that the truth would eventually come out.
The public clash between Musk and Trump began when Musk criticized Trump’s “Big Beautiful” spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination”.
Trump responded by expressing disappointment with Musk and hinting at reviewing Musk’s federal contracts. Musk fired back, stating, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate”.
The feud intensified with Trump suggesting he’d cancel Musk’s federal contracts, and Musk threatening to decommission the NASA-used Falcon rocket, although he later backed down.
The Epstein files are a collection of investigation documents compiled by US federal authorities after analyzing Jeffrey Epstein’s activities.
Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender, was accused of running a network exploiting underage girls. The files include:
– Flight Logs: Records of Epstein’s private jet passengers, including Trump’s name, which appeared seven times in the 1990s
– Contact Lists: Details of Epstein’s associations with high-profile individuals
– Court Records: Documents from Epstein’s lawsuits and investigations
Some Epstein files were released in January 2024, following a US federal judge’s order to unseal records from a 2015 defamation lawsuit.
Additional documents were declassified by the US Department of Justice and FBI in February 2025. However, many documents remain sealed, prompting public requests for full declassification.
Musk’s deleted post and the surrounding controversy have sparked intense debate about the Epstein files and the potential implications for Trump. Meanwhile, Musk has also floated the idea of a new political party, “The America Party”, after a poll showed 80% of respondents supported the idea.
