The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria earlier this year opened nomination for the much-awaited Ten Outstanding Persons (TOYP) Awards. The JCI TOYP awards; honours and celebrates outstanding achievement in about ten fields of endeavour – education, environment, science and technology, entrepreneurship, sports, arts and culture, public and political leadership, finance and the social sector. Past winners include; popular blogger Linda Ikeji, Gbenga Sesan of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN), Nike Adeyemi of Real Woman Foundation, Kanu Nwankwo of the Alanta 96 Olympic fame, and Hon. Chukwuemeka Chikelu Nigeria’s youngest minister of Information.
The TOYP is an annual signature programme of the global body of young active citizens; Junior Chamber International, which seeks to recognize young adults between the ages of 18-40 for accomplishment and great feats in different categories. The event, slated to hold in September will have in attendance past honourees many of who have been making impact in their various fields of endeavours.
Meanwhile, Nigerians are expected nominate outstanding active citizens in their communities via www.jci.ng/toyp before 30th April, 2016 when the nominations window would close. The finalists of the nominees are automatically entered for the JCI global TOYP ceremony slated for the JCI world congress in Quebec Canada in November.
While urging Nigerians to participate in the award process, the 2016 Chairperson of TOYP, Sayo Ojo Bamidele, said: “We hope that Nigerians can help us to discover those whose outstanding contributions have made sustainable impacts in communities, industries and Nigeria at large”.
