Three Killed as ‘Defeated’ Boko Haram Attacks Governor Shettima’s Convoy

Three persons may have been killed in the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, during an attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor was travelling to Gamboru-Ngala on political campaign when his large convoy ran into an ambush between Dikwa and Gamboru on Tuesday evening.

Sources said there was an exchange of gunfire and three persons believed to be party supporters who had joined his convoy on the campaign were killed.

Though there was no official confirmation, the Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa, disclosed on Wednesday afternoon that he heard a rumour of the attack but due to bad mobile network along the axis, he had yet to get in touch with his principal.

He equally revealed that he was at that moment waiting to welcome the team back to Maiduguri.

Also responding to journalists’ query, the spokesman for the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Isa Ado, said no information of such attack was received from their formation around the area.
