EFCC Lied, Former SGF, Anyim Still in Custody – Ozekhome

Contrary to the statement credited to the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that it has released the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim from its custody, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) said the former SGF is still in EFCC detention.

Ozekhome, a counsel to the embattled former SGF said in a statement on Friday that the, “carefully planted false and misleading reports published in various online and newsprint media to the effect that Anyim had since Wednesday, November 22, 2017 been released by the EFCC on administrative bail, is a lie from the pot of hell”.

He added that the misleading report was intended to deceive the world and divert attention from the gross abuse of the fundamental rights of Anyim who has been kept under inhuman and degrading conditions.

Meanwhile, EFCC yesterday stated that it was still keeping a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, in custody due to a court order.

The commission had on Thursday stated that the former Senate President had been released on bail but his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, yesterday punctured the claim, insisting that his client is still being held by the anti-graft agency.

The Head, Media and Publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, had on Thursday confirmed to our sister publication, the Nigerian Tribune, that Senator Anyim had been released.

The senior advocate in a statement said reports that his client had been released by EFCC was false as the commission was still keeping him in detention despite meeting bail conditions.
