The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) N5 billion fraud case against former Aviation Minister Stella Oduah has stalled due to alleged inaction by Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Lateef Fagbemi.
According to sources, Fagbemi failed to pursue further legal action after being directed by an Abuja court in July 2023 to take over the case, possibly due to Oduah’s membership in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The EFCC alleges Oduah misappropriated public funds amounting to N5 billion during her tenure as Aviation Minister.
The case has faced multiple delays since its filing in 2020, with Oduah and eight co-defendants finally arraigned on July 21, 2023.
All defendants pleaded not guilty to the 25-count charge, which includes conspiracy, money laundering, and maintaining anonymous accounts.
Fagbemi’s inaction has raised suspicions of compromise, with sources suggesting Oduah’s APC membership may be a factor.
Documents revealed extensive corruption and mismanagement of public funds under Oduah’s leadership, including the purchase of armored BMW cars using NCAA funds.
Oduah allegedly bought a $1.2 million home in London through a foreign-registered company in 2012 and also secretly acquired multiple mansions in London, using an offshore company registered in Seychelles.
