The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his efforts in promoting digital skills development among Nigerian girls.
The Commission gave the commendation as part of activities marking the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, an initiative aimed at encouraging greater participation of young girls in technology and innovation.
As part of the programme, the NCC hosted 185 female students from across the country on an educational tour of the Nigerian Communications Commission Museum in Abuja.
The tour provided the students with the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of Nigeria’s telecommunications evolution, exposing them to the history and advancement of communication technologies in the country.
According to the Commission, the initiative is designed to inspire young girls to take active roles in shaping Nigeria’s digital future, particularly in the fields of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The NCC noted that exposing participants to the nation’s communications heritage would stimulate interest in innovation and equip them with the knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to the digital economy.
The National Girls in ICT Programme is part of broader efforts by stakeholders in the communications sector to bridge the gender gap in technology and promote digital inclusion among Nigerian youths.
