The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to convene a workshop on Universal Acceptance (UA), aimed at promoting a more inclusive and accessible digital ecosystem in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission invited stakeholders from the technology community, academia, government institutions, and the broader digital ecosystem to participate in the event scheduled for August 27, 2026.
Universal Acceptance is described as a critical enabler of a digitally inclusive internet, ensuring that all valid domain names and email addresses are seamlessly recognised and accepted across internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems.
According to the NCC, the workshop will provide a platform for engagement, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among key stakeholders on strategies to advance the adoption of UA in Nigeria.
The Commission noted that improving Universal Acceptance is essential to enhancing accessibility, fostering innovation, and increasing participation in the digital space, particularly in underserved and emerging communities.
Participants at the workshop are expected to explore pathways for integrating UA principles into digital infrastructure and services, as part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
The NCC reiterated its commitment to driving initiatives that support digital inclusion and ensure that the benefits of the internet are accessible to all.
