Ondo 2016: INEC Declares Jimoh Ibrahim Authentic PDP Candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has named Jimoh Ibrahim the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for next month’s governorship election in Ondo.

Premium Times reports that INEC’s decision is in apparent obedience to a ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered that Mr. Ibrahim be used to replace Eyitayo Jegede.

The decision of the electoral commission also comes despite another court ruling on Thursday by an Akure High Court which ordered that Mr. Jegede still be retained as the candidate of the party.

Mr. Jegede emerged the candidate in a primary conducted by the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP while Mr. Ibrahim won the primary by the Ali Sheriff faction of the party.

In this list of candidates the electoral commission posted on its website on Thursday evening, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was also announced as the candidate of the opposition APC in the state.

Mr. Akeredolu’s main challenger in his party’s primaries, Olusegun Abraham, had also approached the court to be declared candidate.
