Reps Halt Suspension of ‘Keke Napep’ in Abuja

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, called for immediate suspension of the ban on the use of commercial tricycle otherwise called ‘Keke Napep’ as means of transportation across Abuja metropolis.

The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Honourable Abubakar Yalleman.

In his lead debate, Honourable Yalleman stated that such small and medium enterprises ensured a meaningful financial income for huge numbers of Nigerians.

He also expressed worry that if the individuals were hindered from engaging in their legal means of livelihood, it could lead them to illegal means of sourcing for funds.

Honourable Yalleman also stressed the need for the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello to suspend the ban until he can make adequate alternative arrangements for meaningful engagements for those that will be affected.

Also at plenary, the House beckoned on Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to reinforce security operation in Zamfara State with the view to curb the activities of armed bandits terrorizing Nigerians in Zamfara State.

The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Honourable Sulaiman Gumi, who argued that the non-apprehension and due prosecution of the perpetrators of the heinous crime has emboldened the bandits to continue attacking people in the region.

In his lead debate, Honourable Gumi called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to beef up security in the region as the attacks have become a reoccurring decimal.
