US Embassy in Abuja Resumes Full Visa, Other Services August 24

The United States Embassy in Abuja which was shut down a week ago will resume its operations on August 24, 2018, for full services for both visas and American Citizen Services.

While regretting the inconvenience the interruption of service in Abuja had caused, the mission in a message on its website on Monday said that visa and ACS applicants with scheduled appointments for Friday should come to the Embassy, as usual.

“Visa and ACS applicants with cancelled appointments between August 13 and August 23 will be contacted by the Embassy for rescheduling.
“Visa and ACS applicants who were requested by an officer to appear again for follow-up questions on existing applications should contact our office to arrange a new date (ConsularAbuja@state.gov for visas or AbujaACS@state.gov for ACS),” the mission stated.

It assured visa applicants that passports submitted through the Interview Waiver Programme for visa renewal would be processed as soon as possible.

It added that approved application will be mailed out on the next available DHL shipment to the applicant’s listed address.

“Abuja ACS applicants who wish to pick-up their already-printed U.S. passports may come on Friday 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. If you are uncertain if your U.S. passport has arrived yet, please contact us first at AbujaACS@state.gov,” the Embassy said.

The mission had earlier announced that the Abuja Embassy and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Tuesday, and Wednesday, in observance of Eid-el-Kabir.

It cautioned American citizens to be aware of their surroundings during the Sallah holidays, noting that security measures remained heightened due to threats posed by extremist groups.

It said Americans should expect additional police and military checkpoints and possible road blocks throughout the country and advised them to carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Nigerian visa.

The mission warned, “Exercise caution when walking or driving at night; review travel routes and times to reduce time and place predictability; avoid crowds and demonstrations; be aware of your surroundings and keep a low profile.”
