Court Freezes Stallionaire, Deji Somoye’s Bank Accounts Over N5.8bn Debt

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted a Mareva Injunction, temporarily freezing the bank accounts of Stallionaire Nigeria Limited and Deji Somoye, over a debt of N5,858,692,168.58.

Justice Ibrahim Kala delivered the ruling in a suit filed by Union Bank of Nigeria Plc against Stallionaire Nigeria Limited, Somoye, and Supreme Shipping and Marine Services Limited.

The court ordered the freezing of all monies in the defendants’ accounts, including those connected to Somoye’s Bank Verification Number (BVN), up to the tune of N5.8 billion or its equivalent in foreign currency.

The order was granted pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice dated May 20, 2024.

The bank had filed a motion ex-parte application seeking several prayers, including an order varying a previous interim order for Mareva Injunction.

The court, after listening to the lawyers, granted the interim order, freezing the defendants’ accounts.
