Historic Trump-Kim Meeting Holds 9:00 am on June 12

The historic summit between  United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will begin during the morning of June 12, the White House said on Monday, offering the two leaders plenty of time for follow-up meetings in the afternoon.

“The first meeting will be on June 12 at 9:00 am, Singapore time,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in her daily media briefing. “We feel things are continuing to move forward and good progress has been made. The president has been receiving daily briefings on North Korea from his national security team.”

Sanders said that the White House advance team in Singapore is “finalising logistical preparations and will remain in place until the summit begins.” She also said that the U.S. delegation led by Ambassador Sun Kim has been continuing negotiations with representatives from the North at the border town between the two Koreas.

The spokeswoman declined to disclose the content of the letter sent last week by Kim to Trump, saying only that it was “interesting.”

South Korean President Moon Jae-in reportedly is considering a visit to Singapore for a trilateral summit following the Trump-Kim meeting. With South Korea holding local elections on June 13, Moon is expected to oversee the start of voting in the morning and fly to Singapore later that day.
