Buhari’s War Against Corruption is a Recipe for Development – Lai Mohammed

Tope Oshin

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday said that “Corruption is eating deep, not just into the fabric of our moral, but is preventing development.”

Mohammed added that the Federal Government’s war against corruption under President Muhammadu Buhari was recipe for development.

He emphasised the cost of corruption to Nigeria in terms of underdevelopment such as the N1.34 trillion stolen from government coffers by 55 persons between 2007 and 2013, which could have been used for the development of the country.

Mohammed said that the Federal Government was more interested in making Nigerians realise how corruption had affected them in a bid to put an end to the malaise.

The minister stated this in an audience with newsmen shortly after a visit to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the essence of his visit to Lagos was to get the support of the state government on the redevelopment of two major cultural centres, the National Museum, Onikan, and the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu.

Mohammed said that in its current war against corruption, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was not out demonise anybody and urged Nigerians to co-operate with government in its bid to eradicate graft in the country.
