Happy New Year everyone! It’s really great to be back after many months of silence and observation. Our president has taught us to look at and speak of issues technically after he declared a technical victory over Book Haram. Indeed there are a lot of issues currently happening in the country that can only be technically understood. You are welcome to share my thoughts on a couple of these issues:
Technically speaking, Nigeria is broke and President Buhari made emphasis on this on his just concluded media chat. The irony for me is that Nigeria has prepared our highest national budget ever in the face of dwindling oil income. The wisdom in there for us is to remain positive and optimistic, even if the forecast is one of doom and gloom.
Referring back to the Presidential Media Chat raises a third issue when the President technically said the Vice President was the one who promised unemployed Nigerians a N5,000 monthly allowance. This, he suggested, will be the technical wage they will earn by working on some government farming project. A lot does not add up here. Is government setting up farms across the country and then planning to hire cheap labour? Which unemployed Nigerian will be willing to work on the farm for only N5,000 per month? This is one matter that I pray the government gets right.
A second issue of serious concern to the everyday Nigerian is the inability to use the Naira MasterCard or Visa Card for any international transaction from 2016. I read a few tweets that some banks implemented the policy prior to January 1st, leaving a lot of holiday travellers stranded abroad. I think I would be speaking for a lot of people if this technical matter can be addressed. Some people are calling for a change in the technical hands that run the Central Bank of Nigeria. However way this plays out, we will come out stronger. We are Nigerians; we know how to reinvent ourselves.

The president suggested that court orders can be walked around on technical grounds. Considering the matter based on my technical knowledge, this president will not allow anything stand in his way to bring to justice anyone he thinks is guilty. If I were a judge handling some of these high profile cases, I will be tempted to clear with the president before granting bails, but for the Principle of the Separation of Powers. Mr. President comes across as a dictator if you look at this matter technically speaking.
2016 should see us doing everything to avert prophecies of doom and welcome positive ones. One thing for sure is this year will bring good things, and not so good things. Nonetheless one thing to be grateful for is that petrol is cheaper by 50 kobo, thanks to the Technical Minister of Petroleum.
