CAMPUS SIGNAL | University of Ibadan Shut Over Students Protest

The management of the University of Ibadan has closed the institution, ordering students to proceed on a long vacation after a protest by students over poor supply of electricity and water in halls of residence.

This has added to the growing number of universities recently closed down due to students’ unrest.

A circular issued by the management of the institution on Tuesday directed students to leave their halls of residence and proceed on a long vacation, while suspending academic activities till further notice.

Recently, the University of Lagos was shut down and is currently in crisis as students demanded better welfare.

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, suffered the same fate two weeks ago, when students went on rampage in protest of the death of a fellow student knocked down by a commercial motorcycle.

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, also suspended its students’ union government recently after students protested and demanded better welfare.
