President John Dramani Mahama will today [Thursday] turn on the valves of the new John Evans Atta Mills FPSO to mark the beginning of oil production in Ghana’s second oil reserve.
According to Ghana’s Citi FM Online, the Tweneboa, Enyera and Ntomme (TEN) Oil field on which the new vessel Atta Mills FPSO sits is expected to produce between 20,000-23,000 barrels of oil per day.
Ghana’s Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah disclosed that following the success of the TEN fields, Ghana is gradually becoming an integral part of the oil industry in West Africa.
“Ghana is going to increase its oil production. We are still a very small oil producing country but step by step we are increasing our production capacity but we are not doing that in isolation. We are doing that making sure we consolidate our regulations and laws to attract more investment to make Ghana the oil hub of the West African Sub region,” the Minister added.
A separate statement issued by the Petroleum Ministry signed by it head of Communications, Edward Bawa said the President will also use the opportunity to open a Subsea Well Choke and also unveil a plaque to commemorate the ceremonial event.
The TEN Project is a joint venture led by Tullow Oil with a stake of 47.185%. The other partners: Kosmos Energy, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and PetroSA have a stake of 17%, 17%, 15% and 3.815% respectively. The project derives its name from the three fields, Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN), which lie around 60 kilometres off the coast of the Western Region, Ghana. The full field development will consist of 24 wells in total – a mixture of water injection, gas injection and production wells.
At start-up, 10 wells will be required and these have already been drilled. FPSO John Evans Atta Mills has been anchored over the fields with a significant amount of subsea production equipment installed on the seabed. TEN is expected to produce about 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) over a 20 years period, 80% of which is oil and 20% gas.
The field will produce 80,000 barrels of oil and 180mm scf of gas per day when it reaches full production.
