Negotiations Underway To End EFCC Probe Of Aisha Achimugu, After Lagos Governor’s Meeting With Tinubu

Negotiations are reportedly underway to halt the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) investigation into Aisha Achimugu, a close associate of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over allegations of money laundering and investment fraud.

This development follows a meeting between Governor Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu, where a delegation from the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, pleaded on behalf of the governor.

Achimugu was declared wanted by the EFCC after she failed to comply with a summons for questioning on March 5, 2025, and instead fled Nigeria.

The EFCC subsequently obtained a court-issued arrest warrant.

Sources indicate that negotiations are being made to end the prosecution of Achimugu, who has been linked to Sanwo-Olu.

The EFCC’s investigation into Achimugu centers around allegations of money laundering and investment fraud.

Her association with Governor Sanwo-Olu has sparked speculation, particularly after reports emerged of his lavish attendance at her 50th birthday celebration in Grenada.

The governor reportedly traveled on a private jet and stayed at a luxury resort, sparking questions about the nature of their relationship and possible political implications.

The meeting between Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu comes amid reports of a rift between the two, fueled by allegations of illegal land allocation at Banana Island.

Insiders claim that Sanwo-Olu sold land belonging to Tinubu, further aggravating the President’s anger.

This dispute reportedly triggered political maneuvering and tense negotiations within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

After the meeting, Sanwo-Olu denied reports of any feud between him and President Tinubu, attributing the rumors to “people who are more Catholic than the Pope.” He thanked the President for granting them an audience, emphasizing their relationship as “father and son”.
